Lesson’s From The Light Point Chapter 4: The Roots (Fear of Man)
Everyone suffers from the fear of man because everyone deals with insecurity about one thing or another. Behind every insecurity is a feeling of shame and behind every feeling of shame is a fear of man. When we practice the fear of man we make idols out of people, things, or ideas. We give them the power to make us feel worthy. We give them the authority to control our actions- a privilege that should only belong to God. Idolatry is so detrimental because instead of giving us the things we go to them for - worth, affirmation, validation, hope, peace, purpose, significance - idols really end up robbing us of those things ultimately. Those things aren’t there’s to give. The created thing can never live up to the responsibilities of the creator. In order to truly find freedom and purpose, we must only fear our maker.
